If you've never been to a murder mystery party before, it's completely reasonable to have questions. What does "interactive" actually mean? Do you have to act? Will shy guests be put on the spot? Is it more like a play, or more like a game?

These are the things people want to know before they book, so here's exactly what to expect.

We come to you

The first thing to know is that The Clue Collective comes to your location. Your home, your office, a hired venue, wherever your group is gathering. You don't need a special space or any equipment. We bring everything the show needs.

Before the show

To get started, just reach out and we'll work through the details together: group size, date, location, and which show you'd like. Once you're ready to go ahead, we'll take your deposit to lock in the booking and send through your confirmation. From there we'll be in touch leading up to the show to make sure everything is set.

On the night

Our actor arrives about an hour before your show start time to set up. As guests arrive, the actor casts them in their roles. Some guests play suspects and receive a character binder with everything they need to know. There's nothing to prepare or memorise in advance, and even the most introverted guest can simply read from their binder if they prefer. Other guests play detectives, working to solve the crime across the three acts of the evening.

The show runs in three acts. In the first act, a murder (or theft!) is committed. Between acts, guests have investigation time to mingle, ask questions, and gather clues. In the third act, after the detective has interrogated the suspects and all the clues are on the table, each team makes their best guess at whodunit.

The show isn't a passive performance. It's driven by your guests, not our actors.

What to wear to a Murder Mystery party

Costumes are encouraged but never required. Some guests go all out. Others show up in what they'd normally wear to dinner. Both work, the story doesn't depend on a dress code. If you're a group that love to dress up, we have costume guides ready for each one of our shows!

How long does it run?

Most shows run one and a half to two hours from guest arrival to the actors' bow. It works well alongside a meal, with each act pairing naturally with a different course.

Will it work for my group?

This is the question we get most often. The short answer is yes, and here's why. The show is designed to give every personality type a genuine place in the evening. Extroverts tend to lean into the characters and the drama. Introverts often make the sharpest detectives. There's no moment where someone is singled out or forced to perform. Everyone participates in the way that feels natural to them.

We've run shows for groups of close friends, groups of colleagues who barely knew each other, family gatherings with three generations in the room, and kids' parties. The dynamic is always different. The fun is always there.

Which show is right for us?

We currently have seven shows across different themes: 1920s speakeasy, 1980s fitness party, 1950s diner, modern masquerade ball, supernatural lighthouse theft, Christmas at the North Pole, and two family-friendly mystery shows for younger groups.

Head to thecluecollective.com to read about each show and find the right fit for your group.
